History buffs and Civil War aficionados will especially enjoy Paul Boehmer's precise, straightforward reading of the infamous Union commander Ulrich Dahlgren's daring raid to free the prisoners in Richmond. The legacy of this failed effort was a terrible new style of warfare. Schultz's analysis of the link between Dahlgren's failed raid and the subsequent Confederate campaign of terror is intriguing. Boehmer uses appropriate accents and tone, skillfully rendering the realistic dialogue and the horror of the acts of terrorism, including arson, robberies, sabotage, and even primitive biological warfare.
