GIRL REPORTER SINKS SCHOOL!

Desperate for a great front-page story for the Trumball Middle School newspaper, Casey Smith, "girl reporter extraordinaire," stumbles upon evidence of a cheating ring, one that just may implicate the editor of the school newspaper. In pursuit of her story, Casey faces danger and her own misconceptions of others, becoming a more mature journalist in the process. Montbertrand effects just the right tone of voice for Casey and the cast of quirky characters, capturing the unique qualities of each with humor and sympathy. A good balance of action and introspection, likable characters, and insight into the emotional lives of preteens make this a funny, suspenseful, and satisfying listening experience. E.S.
