Veida Dehmlow's repertoire of voices and accents makes all of Millard’s characters easily recognizable. Lady Caroline Carrington made the mistake of a lifetime when she turned her back on love and declined to marry the wealthy and handsome but untitled Tom Crawdon. Two years later, when she must pick a peer for a husband or have one picked for her, Lady Caroline is determined to experience a little impropriety first. Complications occur when she encounters Tom again. While Dehmlow’s vocal timbre is most effective with older characters, her upper-crust British accent is fully believable, and her vitality makes this a pleasant Regency listen.
