Leo Burmester records an interesting and diverse collection of stories with a serious and strong voice. The writing styles vary as much as the stories themselves, and Burmester does not falter while moving from story to story. His vocal characterizations help to enliven the work, but the characterizations are not of the highest quality. Still, Burmester's voice rightly indicates that he is a member of "the greatest generation." The stories range from William Manchester's account of the British Air Force to a fascinating story about Nazis making a propaganda film in the final stages of WWII. M.L.C.
