BEACH BUMS

Narrator Rich Camillucci captures an array of characters--losers and not quite winners--who live in Beach City, Florida. Walter Shore, 18-year-old Seminole, hears voices in his head and decides to live on the beach to meditate and find peace. He and his friend, hooker Winnie Baker, are splendidly presented in all of their glaring differences. She's talkative and pushy while Walter is quiet and gentle. Camillucci deftly captures the many accents and voices--Boston Italian, stoned surfers, eccentric geriatrics, to name just a few--of these Florida characters, as well as their personalities and motivations. Listeners will enjoy this quirky story, which is both poignant and funny as the young couple come of age in a most uncommon community.
