Two capable narrators, Anne Flosnik and John Lee, allow listeners of this time-slip novel to move easily between the connected worlds of Britain in 1981 and the Scottish Borderlands in 1321. Flosnik's posh feminine voice relays the story of Jesse, who, while recovering from a concussion in London in 1981, cannot explain her sudden ability to create beautiful drawings of a castle and a woman's face. John Lee's rich, masculine tones are well suited for the violent tale of Bayard, Lord of Hundredfold, a castle under siege in Norman times. When the neurologist treating Jesse recognizes the castle in her drawings as one connected with his own family's history, Flosnik portrays Jesse's incredulity at the coincidence, and her terrifying link to circumstances that can't be logically explained.
