A slow-moving psychological horror/thriller, DEEPWATER opens with the arrival of Nat Banyon at a sleazy motel where he meets Herman Finch who sees in Nat himself as a young man. Finch immediately notes that Nat's car is stolen and begins to slyly exert pressure on him to do what Finch wants. Hired to paint the motel and do other odd jobs, Nat begins an erotic relationship with Finch's wife while one horrifying event after another leads to the harrowing and surprising conclusion. Ferrone does a masterful job with this performance. He keeps the story from bogging down by using excellent timing and varied tempos. There is never any danger of confusing the characters as each has a distinctive and unique voice that is true to the author's intention. His tone and manner convey a dark and creepy tale. A thoroughly engaging narration for listeners who enjoy the genre. S.S.R. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 02]
