Carol Monda narrates this account of a fictional character named Rose as she encounters famous cultural icons from the 1960s to today. Monda shifts her delivery to represent the musicians, writers, actors, and artists who make appearances, including the recognizable patter of some. She uses Canadian pronunciations to provide a sense of place for this Toronto-based story. But her crusty timbre detracts from the parts of the audiobook depicting Rose's early years. Furthermore, the fun concept suffers from repetition. While the book is episodic, with no real character development or plot, Monda manages to deliver the surreal situations in ways listeners may find charming. Ultimately though, Rose's everyday encounters with celebrities prove unsatisfying. R.T. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2017]
