When plastic surgeon Jackson Maebry is summoned to the E.R., the last person he expects to find on the table is his girlfriend, Allie Sorosh. The beating she sustained has rendered her unrecognizable, even by her lover. Patrick G. Lawlor's performance of the first-person narrative is totally believable precisely because he doesn't sound like a professional actor. Lawlor completely assumes the character of a young, overworked, and somewhat alcoholic resident who is struggling to find out what happened to his girlfriend, his ex-girlfriend, a friendly detective, and his own career. Jackson's emotions sound real, not acted. While a portion of the ending doesn't hold up, Lawlor's performance remains consistently excellent. R.P.L.
