HELPING HERCULES

When her uncle gives her a coin, Susan knows that it's Greek and very old, but she doesn't suspect that it's magic until she finds herself transported from her bed to ancient Greece just in time to help Hercules clean the Augean stables. Sophie Aldred creates a blustery, tempestuous voice for Susan, a middle child who doesn't want to do her homework, clean the litter pan, or ride horses, and who proudly proclaims that she's known for her temper. Children will hardly know they're learning about mythology as they travel with Susan through various myths, and those who know more about mythology will appreciate the combination of Simon's sly humor and Aldred's fine reading.
