LAST CHANCE TO SEE: THE ORIGINAL BBC RADIO SERIES In Search of the World's Most Endangered Species

In the 1980s, Douglas Adams, the late author of THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, and Mark Cawardine took along a tape recorder as they set out to track down some rare species on a project for BBC Radio. Narrator Peter Jones adds to their experience by telling listeners more about some of the strange creatures the pair found. The journeys are strictly down to earth. Listeners might feel like they're hearing the results of a birding expedition, given the soundscape of natural noises. One memorable bit finds Jones raising his normally calm voice over the cries of fur seals. Among the episodes, Adams also pursues the Komodo dragon, the Amazonian manatee, and a rare species of dolphin. For added realism, there are also snatches of airplane and airport crowd noise.
