Narrator Whitney Dykhouse immediately pulls listeners in with her attentive and expressive portrayal of Chole, an upbeat teenager who learns she will die if she doesn't receive a heart transplant. Dykhouse's voice is youthful and filled with the anxiety and guilt that plague Chloe when a stranger's death allows her to have a second chance at life. Dykhouse's voice is pleasantly soft and deep; her casual tone reflects the story's West Coast setting and Kai, the young surfing instructor whom Chloe finds herself inexplicably drawn to after her transplant. When Chloe begins to feel and see her heart donor's emotions, she sets out to give their life closure. It's a solemn but hopeful journey, and Dykhouse's evocative performance never misses an emotional beat in this thoughtful coming-of-age story.
