Nate Heller is a tough P.I. of the Philip Marlowe school, who here recounts his personal involvement in the notorious Black Dahlia murder case of the 1940s. While he is fictional, many of the people he bumps into are not, such as the victim--a starlet who, just before her death, told Nate she was pregnant with his baby. Great fun, especially for those who know the period and persons of the drama. Jeff Woodman is a fine, vivid reader, but unfortunately miscast; he sounds like a sheltered teen pretending to be a tough guy. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 04]
