Author/narrator Rebecca Wragg Sykes has a great deal to tell us about the Neanderthals, much of it surprising and unexpected. Her research is a fascinating survey of the archaeological history and current technology that are unlocking the Neanderthals' story--including their even more fascinating role in our own genetic history. Sykes is engaging and unaffected but not the most expressive of narrators. Her phrasing is often too regular and uninflected, and her pace is uneven. But the wealth of information she provides and her obvious investment in her subject hold one's interest throughout. You think your life is rough? Just listen to the story she has to tell.
