Narrator Amandla Stenberg's delivery has a steady, feminine style. Some of her speech sounds robotic--as if one is listening to a distant relative of Siri. That's ironic--given the topic of this audiobook. Dr. Ayanna Howard, a leading innovative roboticist, poses profound questions pertaining to human biases influencing the next generation of artificial intelligence. As she intertwines personal experiences and scientific research, Stenberg takes her time to make sure the listener understands every word by offering hints of emotion--like sarcasm and pride. Howard is clear with her words, and Stenberg responds accordingly in the same manner that Siri would but with human emotional instinct. Stenberg closes with the right amount of optimism and caution, as a reminder that it is humans who create AI responses. T.E.C. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2020]
