Narrator Julian Elfer brings an orator's passion to his narration of the manifesto set forth by the authors. Elfer is eloquent when talking about their ideals and angry when recounting how white men brought eco-disaster to Easter Island. Lawrence and Laybourn-Langton believe a power imbalance is behind the problems facing the environment, and they hold the capitalist neo-liberal status quo responsible. In the pandemic, they see an opportunity for a new eco-socialist path. Elfer maintains his passionate voice through passages of ideological jargon about "collective transformation." The authors tell how Britain's National Health Service has cut emissions even as it has grown and cite Margaret Thatcher's England, which they clearly don't favor, to illustrate the achievement of radical change.
