UNDER THE WAVE AT WAIMEA

by | Read by Jim Meskimen

Fiction • 18.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2021

Getting old sucks, but narrator Jim Meskimen makes aging more palatable as he employs the perfect tone to portray the fictional aging big-wave surfer Joe Sharkey. Recently, Joe had a few too many and struck a homeless man during a rainy late-night drive. The accident and his reaction, or lack thereof, trouble his partner and nurse, Olive. Meskimen allows a reverential tone to creep into his voice as Sharkey muses on memory, mortality, and getting old. Theroux's study of geriatrics pondering the end, or denying it, touches on all the requisite grace notes as performed with assurance by Meskimen. Sharkey's gilded life finds redemption as he returns to the waves, aided by Theroux and Meskimen. R.O. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2021]
