During a botched mugging in late 1970s Harlem, one of the assailants is killed. The assailant's accomplice takes a cruel revenge in this taut thriller. Dion Graham is a study in subtlety in his delivery of this audiobook. One moment he’s easing into the slower cadences of the decade; the next his whisper sucks us into the terror of a Vietnam veteran's flashback. Graham makes linguistic distinctions between black men, those who try to make a difference, and those who do not. However, he never employs language to make moral judgments about any character.
