IN THE FOREST OF THE LOST AND FOUND

Katie Penate narrates this first-person novel of survival and redemption. Allyson, a spoiled socialite, goes through a personal transformation when she finds herself lost and alone in the wilderness just below the Arctic Circle. Penate's narration captures each aspect of her growth. When the audiobook begins, Penate's tone is clipped and brash, reflecting the unlikable character's tone. When Allyson faces adversity early on, Penate's narration is whiny and defeatist. However, as each new obstacle is overcome and Allyson gains confidence and clarity, Penate's words are more fully enunciated, and there are hints of compassion and soulfulness that sound like introspection.
