Alison Reid's narration of this charming, fanciful tale is as pleasing as the story itself. Toby's lived at the Grand Seaside Hotel since he was left there as a small baby; his life becomes very interesting when he meets Eliza Flot, a young mermaid, and her parents. Reid creates a variety of voices, from that of well-meaning, decent Toby to the feckless Flots to the evil Mr. Harris (who wants to sell the mermaids to various news agencies and freak shows). Reid's narration builds suspense as listeners wonder: Will Toby and his friends be able to save the Flots just before the press and the dogcatcher (with his large net) arrive?
