Rachel Pine's debut novel, marketed as a roman à clef about life at Miramax Films under the leadership of Bob and Harvey Weinstein, centers on protagonist Karen Jacobs, who has left CNN to become a publicity assistant at Glorious Pictures, headed by Phil and Tony Waxman. While Kathe Mazur has a clear, pleasant voice and a straightforward manner, her narration does nothing to embellish the anorexic plot, stereotypical characters, back-stabbing behavior, and thinly veiled actors and movie hits, including "Perp Friction" and "The Foreign Pilot." If you want cheekiness, clever dialogue, juicy scuttlebutt, and clever insights, you'll need to look elsewhere. K.A.T. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 05/ JAN 06]
