THE LAST RAIDER

by | Read by David Rintoul

Historical Fiction • 14.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1963

It's December 1917, and Germany has very nearly lost the war. The "Vulkan" is a German ship--the last raider--a converted banana boat sent out, with guns hidden, to kill Allied ships. The lion roaring here is German, but Rintoul's voice is distinctly British, with the music we have come to expect from that nation's most gifted narrators. Astonishingly, he can also modulate his instrument, thus giving an audio fingerprint to each character. He varies the tones to distinguish between the young and the veteran seamen. We hear the clash of battle, the roar of the big shells, the rattle of machine-gun fire. We also hear a woman's voice, angry, uncertain, and then loving.
