Here's an opportunity to learn about a woman who has slipped through the cracks of history. A feminist and enemy of slavery and alcohol, Clarina Nichols, born in New England, got herself out of a bad marriage and into a newspaper job. In the mid-1850s she moved herself, three children, and supportive second husband to Kansas to fight for women's rights and to help ensure that the new state would be slave-free. Eickhoff, on whose book this audio is based, does a competent and clear job of reading. Her enthusiasm for her determined and sharp-witted subject is obvious.
