Jake and Helen have no memory of the Fate of the Stone fantasy trilogy, which might seem to put the listener in an equal position. It doesn't. Colin Moody's well-dimensioned presentation will keep you listening, but a lack of background on the characters makes it hard to become engaged with them or their story. Moody seems to have particular fun with the characters' encounters with such classical figures as Virgil, Dante, Ulysses, and Thomas Aquinas. His characterizations are thoughtful. He uses accents to good advantage, and his strong pace never lets the book lag. J.E.M. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 07]
