This troubling audiobook captures a woman's descent into madness. Narrator Dana Aronowitz deserves credit for keeping listeners invested in a grim story and rooting for a woman who makes misstep after misstep. When film archivist Ellen Kramer, a closeted lesbian who is deeply repressed, becomes possessed by the creatures in a recently discovered movie from the WWII era, her life falls apart. Aronowitz's skillful portrayal of Ellen's breakdown will lead listeners to ponder if she can possibly survive this horrific experience. Felker-Martin's gruesome narrative is clearly aimed at horror fans, but Aronowitz does a winning job of keeping all listeners involved.
