THE TRIMONI TWINS AND THE CHANGING COIN

Eleven-year-old twin magicians Mimi and Beezel have the ability to "kapoof" people and animals into any kind of animal. But danger lurks in the form of an evil magician who plots to kidnap them and steal the coin that gives them their magic power. The protagonists are clever and independent, and should have strong girl-appeal. Narrator Katherine Fenton keeps the pace moving and conveys the twins' feelings with fine expression. But for some of the other characters, her voices are unconvincing and inconsistent--most notably, the villain, who just doesn't sound villainous, and the girls' guardian and tutor, Mr. Waffle, whose Southern accent comes and goes, sometimes mid-sentence.
