With the success of THE SECRET, some of the older "positive thinking" gurus are being dusted off and reissued. Allen wrote on the vanguard of the movement, which was facilitated by the marginalization of Protestantism's doctrine of original sin by some Christian leaders in the 1950s. Charley Steiner's brusque, deep voice seems hurried, perhaps due to time restrictions concerning the capture of the entire book on a single CD. He is unconvincing as he delivers the name-it-and-claim-it platitudes that will be repetitive to those who are familiar with them and cloying to those who are not. He has a tendency to fire the bromides rapidly, barely allowing the each one to make its impression before restating it. S.M.M. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/ SEP 07]
