Set in South Florida, this second installment in the Dixie Hemingway series finds the former sheriff's deputy turned pet-sitter involved with murder when one of her charges discovers the dead body of Conrad Ferrelli. The late Ferrelli, who was from a famous circus family, had planned to use his family money to fund a retirement home for circus performers, but his villainous brother wants to fund a casino instead. When the murderer thinks that Dixie knows his identity, the action begins. While Julia Gibson's characterizations are not particularly distinctive, her voice is pleasant and engaging. She tends to stretch out certain words but speaks clearly. Without realizing it, the listener is soon engaged in the action. M.H.N. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 08]
