Setting off on a Viking ship may sound like an adventure, but things are not always as they appear. When Peer and Hilde set off for Vinland, they soon find the captain and his son may not be the honest sea traders they pretend to be. Andrew Sachs's intimate narration makes this story sound like a tale one might hear in front of the fireplace while sipping a snifter of brandy. His tone is almost conspiratorial at times, as if he's sharing great secrets. At other times, his tone is as bold and fierce as the action requires. Sachs shows broad range in his characterizations, which reflect the strengths and weaknesses of the story principals. J.E.M. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2008]
