To avoid facing a tragic medical error, Welsh surgeon Dafydd Woodruff flees civilization for Moose Creek, in the Canadian subarctic. After a brief stint in the frozen wilderness, Dafydd returns home. Thirteen years later, a letter arrives claiming he is the father of teenaged twins. Despite DNA evidence to the contrary, Dafydd vehemently denies ever having been intimate with their mother. Pete Bradbury's narration is engaging, offering smooth time shifts between 1992 and 2006, an assortment of original personalities, and a strong sense of place. Bradbury's Welsh accent is completely convincing. Dafydd's troubled thoughts and emotions ring true as he struggles to uncover the mystery locked in an icy past. Strong writing and a compelling narration make this an involving listen. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2008]
