This racy and clever language instruction volume will entertain as much as enlighten. The cover reminds listeners that the production includes “slang they don’t teach you in school,” and authors Robinson, Jones-Reid, and Lopez certainly deliver. Narrator Moutal’s performance is engaging and warm, but his delivery is about as fast paced as the street language he’s trying to teach. His pace is no surprise, as the volume requires a strong knowledge of Spanish, but Moutal is careful to emphasize which phrases are appropriate for polite company, and which ones are decidedly not. While this volume would work best for frequent Latin-America travelers, non-Spanish speakers will still find it amusing and informative. Just don’t give it to your bebès!
