Sam Tsoutsouvas brings a sense of drama to this densely packed volume on the development of management as a concept and a field. However, his steady delivery and relentless pacing of each sentence build to the point that the listener may feel hammered by the text. Tsoutsouvas's style hardly varies as he recounts the rise of the Japanese auto industry and the effects of the Baby Boom generation on management. His cadence shifts only to emphasize a particular point in the narrative, at which point his voice rises. These moments occur often enough to fall into a predictable rhythm. While some listeners who are familiar with his delivery from other titles may welcome it, others may find it monotonous. M.R. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2009]
