The first volume of a new series of original short fiction showcases three Newfoundland writers, two of whom narrate their own stories. Janet Russell's reading of Carmelita McGrath's "Revenants," about a couple who have witnessed a terrible car accident while trying to escape on a vacation, has the pace and tension of a good ghost story. The headliner, however, is Joel Hynes's reading of his own story, "Say Nothing, Saw Wood," which is lyrically told in a voice that makes you believe he IS the protagonist, a juvenile offender who learns the truth about his father's identity. The only disappointment in this production is the creepy and inappropriate music that bridges the stories. D.B. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2009]
