RATS

The packaging of this Recorded Books edition reads "Recommended for listeners ages 12 and up." This note is certainly to be taken seriously, for both the story and the narrator are successful at producing several spine-tingling moments. These aren't ordinary rats that are coming out of the garbage piles on Staten Island--these are enormous mutant rats that want to take revenge upon their human oppressors. Fifteen-year-old Sarah Macafee, her ten-year-old brother Michael, and his pet rat, Surfer, are the only ones who can thwart the plans of the killer rats. L.J. Ganser narrates the most gruesome scenes with such deliberation that the images stay alive in the listener's head long after the story is over.
