THE HOMECOMING OF SAMUEL LAKE

When preacher Samuel Lake finds himself without a congregation, his family relishes the opportunity to return home for a year to be with his wife’s family after the unexpected death of her father. Being a man without a church is a challenging thing for Samuel, and this year his family may test his faith more deeply than it has ever been tested before. Narrator Catherine Taber’s sweet-as-molasses delivery might be cloying in other circumstances, but it perfectly matches the naïveté of the Lake and Moses clans. The heart and life that come through in Taber’s portrayals of the family make this a heartwarming and occasionally suspenseful listen.
