THE CRUISE OF THE SNARK

by | Read by Andre Stojka

Biography & Memoir • 8.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2011

Andre Stojka's narration of London's 1907 South Pacific sea voyage is both enjoyable and troubling. The story is an amusing and exciting sea adventure for which London is famous. For entertainment's sake, Stojka's grandfatherly timbre and whimsical tone make the audiobook lively and easy to follow for young listeners. It's easy to fall into his narrative rhythm, especially with the occasional background sound effects such as birds or splashing water. For actual fans of London, however, the narration seems problematic since London did not live past 40. Thus, Stojka's grandfatherly voice clashes with prose written by someone in his 30s. Additionally, he rushes just a bit too fast from sentence to sentence without sufficient pause. L.E. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2013]
