Mystery & Suspense • 14.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

Stechschulte's easygoing, expressive style adds a wonderful dimension to Brown's skillfully crafted dialogue. He does a particularly outstanding job in characterizing Jack Sawyer, the mysterious drifter. The plot has been called a knockoff of OF MICE AND MEN, but it's more trite, shallow, and vulgarly graphic, more indicative of the "cheapness" of life in the '90s. The main reason to keep listening is for the powerful, accomplished narration, not the suspense or romance. More listeners will become fans of Stechschulte's talents than Brown's. S.C.A.
