Beaton deviates from her usual series characters to give us a clever and unique story. When Fell's miserly mother dies, he's flabbergasted to learn that he's inherited a sizable fortune. Donada Peters is up to her usual high standards as she introduces Fell and his occasional girlfriend, Maggie, whose kind but sharp personality shines forth as she leads the way to discover the mysterious source of Fell's money. The couple confront village biddies, police, journalists, and a wide range of friends and relatives in their quest. Each character is vocally differentiated.
