HOUSE OF ODYSSEUS The Songs of Penelope, Book 2

by | Read by Catrin Walker-Booth

Fantasy • 14.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2023

Devotees of Greek mythology will devour this performance. A follow-up to North's popular ITHACA, this substantial audiobook focuses on Penelope and Elektra, with plots aplenty. Catrin Walker-Booth is wonderful to listen to, and she is well suited to the drama that unfolds at every turn. Her performance moves from sophisticated to bawdy without missing a beat, and she captures bits of humor just as smoothly as she builds dialogue, with just a tweak of her tone. Her pacing is steady and works well with the exposition of the tale. North's writing style can be unwieldy with its complex sentences and drawn-out sidebars, both of which can become fatiguing to the ear. However, listeners who embrace this kind of world-building won't find a better narrator than Walker-Booth. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2023]
