Narrator Kathleen McInerney lends vulnerability and self-confidence to the voice of Riley Griggs. Riley is confronted with a series of shocking truths while waiting for her husband to meet her at the ferry terminal that serves idyllic Belle Isle, North Carolina, where they will spend the summer. McInerney does a superb job of voicing the shock and dismay of a woman whose husband vanishes--leaving her in financial ruin. Her anger and disdain at being questioned by authorities sounds real as her preteen daughter's tenacious attitude. As Riley sets out to discover what has happened, she realizes Belle Isle holds many secrets, including those of family and friends, and she may be on her journey alone.
