NOW WAIT FOR LAST YEAR

Written in 1966, this novel finds Eric Sweetscent, an organ transplant doctor, becoming enmeshed in intergalactic politics as he becomes personal physician to the most powerful leader on earth. At the same time, his wife becomes addicted to a powerful drug. (Is there a conspiracy?) Luke Daniels reflects the quiet but passionate tension between husband and wife as she becomes increasingly paranoid and disoriented from a drug that causes her to travel forward and backward in time—or is it just a hallucination? Daniels presents Sweetscent as a thoughtful, reserved man who engages in quiet conversations with automated taxicabs and simpleminded inventors as well as sophisticated politicians.
