WANTED, A GENTLEMAN

Theodore Swann, editor of London's MATRIMONIAL ADVISER, is hired by Mr. Martin St. Vincent to accompany him to Gretna Green in search of a runaway heiress. Narrator Greg Patmore skillfully evokes the theme that opposites attract with his voices for Theo and Martin. Theo's nasal voice conjures up a slightly built intellectual with a satirical outlook on life. Patmore makes Theo likable by voicing his honest assessment of his own questionable morality. Martin, a freed slave from the Caribbean, is the perfect vocal foil to Theo. His deep, solemn tones and measured dialogue capture Theo's interest from the first. The long carriage ride to Gretna allows their intimate relationship to develop, which Patmore delivers with intensity and humor. Enjoy this clever historical with excellent narration.
